Cookies
“Cookies” are small files that a website sends to a user’s web browser, which the browser stores and returns to the server upon the user’s next visit, thereby identifying the user. This allows the website, for example, to customize advertisements, record browsing history, store settings, and save usernames and passwords – collecting various types of data, including personal data.
The Electronic Communications Act (ZEKom-1) requires every website that uses cookies to provide users with the following information:
- what cookies are used,
- for what purpose they are collected, and
- how they are used.
